2009 has seen Clear Route involved in varied and prestigious areas of engineering and surveying

Detailed below are some of these varied projects undertaken this year and some ongoing:

Topographical Survey

Thames Water

Topographical Mapping together with Underground Service Mapping was carried out in various streets and highways in South East London for the upgrade of combined surface drainage and sewers.

Scotland - Cross Country

Clear Route has just completed a 24 kilometre cross country Ground Levelling Survey in Dumfries & Galloway in the south west of Scotland, charting undulations and depths to assist with a buried high voltage cable run from a Biomass Power Station in the north, to the Chaplecross Power Station further south. This survey was achieved using a combination of GPS and traditional land surveying techniques with Leica Total Station.

London Underground

Clear Route in conjunction with consultant engineers are carrying out Topographic Surveys for track catch pit drainage renewal across the whole London Underground network.
This is ongoing work, undertaken in engineering hours and possessions.

The Fleet Sewer project

Another ongoing project in Farringdon Street, London, is to map all utility services at street level and then include the depth and exact position of the Victorian Fleet Sewers, running in parallel either side of an existing toilet block, being considered for a new underground electricity substation. This includes a full three dimensional Topographic Survey of the interior of both sewers and the toilet block.

Schools

Topographical Site Surveys together with Underground Services Mapping. See report under Underground Mapping.

Underground Mapping

London Boroughs & County Councils

A 3D Underground Utility Survey was undertaken in the London Borough of Enfield for highway alteration.

A Geophysical Mapping Survey using Ground Probing Radar was undertaken for Hackney Borough Council to ascertain and record the position of a burial ground of an old church, due to the appearance of holes on the surface and concern of further voiding.

We have completed a number of Topographical Site Surveys together with Underground Service Mapping of schools in North and East London, Essex and Kent. A school in Witham being considered for a new academy, as were schools in Chelmsford and Dartford.

Clear Route also completed a full Underground Services Survey at the Brighton University Complex in East Sussex.

EDF Energy – Underground Service Mapping see Feasibility report

Feasibility Studies

EDF Energy

A number of Feasibility Studies, Underground Service Mapping Surveys, Sub Station Surveys, Utility Compilation drawings and As-Laid Cable Recording have been undertaken throughout the year, working closely with EDF Energy and other contractors, laying new electricity supply cables in London & Home Counties. This also included a 6.5 kilometre run in the Neasden area, upgrading power to the Victoria Line of the London Underground.

Measured Building Surveys

The Olympic Village

An ongoing Measured Building Survey of the new accommodation blocks at the Olympic Village is being undertaken by Clear Route. Each floor, of which there are 70 floors, is being surveyed for - squareness of structure, floor penetrations, floor and ceiling levels, together with location fixings for cladding and exterior balconies.

Associated Services

The Northern Outfall

Clear Route undertook a detailed 3D Survey of the 4 - Northern Outfall Barrels at Wick East, London adjacent to the Olympic Stadium.
The Survey included the main structural walls, soffits, inverts, access shafts, individual weirs, Stop Log slots and Penstock gates.

National Grid – LNG Isle of Grain

Clear Route has been commissioned to undertake a Buried Services Survey and photographic report, along the proposed route of the combined heat pipe corridor at the LNG site, Isle of Grain, Kent. As a result of the Mapping, further work included the spiking of cables, slit trench excavation, recording and reporting to OS and Project grid & datum.
