Associated Services
Although primarily a Mapping Company, there are various other services we provide that are linked to our experience in mapping.
Utility Route Proving and Feasibility Studies
Clear Route Utility Services are regularly consulted by authorities to determine whether an intended service route can meet critical criteria. With many years’ experience of helping utility clients and various organisations within the public and private sectors, we offer a total facility, embracing economic and technical feasibility studies of route selection and associated mapping or plan preparation. Services take into account environmental and traffic management measures, health and safety elements and are inclusive of CDM recommendations.
With the added knowledge of existing underground congestion, and also taking cognisance of safety, environmental aspects, surface construction on vehicular and pedestrian access, surface obstructions and NRSWA consideration, accurate costs can be ascertained for the project, allowing a minimum cost installation to be achievable. The project can then be issued out for tender with all this information included, allowing every opportunity for the contractor to reduce the installation cost to its minimum. Such action takes away any inherent inefficiencies and, by working in unison with the installation contractor, we are able to offer a more cost effective work scheduling regime.
As-Laid Utility Mapping and Recording
Our as-laid mapping service can be separated into two distinct categories.
We are regularly instructed to record utilities as they are installed. This requires the position of the utility to be recorded, and then related to existing topographic detail, along with the depth and formation of installed ducts and pipework. Also recorded are joint positions on cables, associated chamber details, and details within sub stations and compounds. We have extensive experience within the electricity industry and regularly produce these records in strip map format.
The second service is the retrospective location of services previously laid that were not recorded at the time of installation. This involves staff visiting these sites, locating and marking the missing or unknown utility, surveying their routes and sufficient topography and then the subsequent supply of this information to the client’s GIS system. This information is supplied as data, not as sketches, with all dimensions necessary for record supply purposes.
The tangible benefits of our as installed mapping service includes:
- Full definition of any missing utility services referenced to existing topography with location dimensions in CAD format.
- The supply of all information on a digital file suitably related to the Ordnance Survey grid.
- Full details of depths of as installed service thus providing means of auditing actual installation by others.
- Complete chainage details in order to audit horizontal lengths of service installation.
Additionally
- Qualified Draftspersons and CAD facility. We are experienced in many types of CAD software, including AutoCAD and Microstation.
- Full Statutory Utility Plans Provision, and supply of compiled Utility drawings.
